      Those who work in the foreign trade area have among their concerns the safe transportation of products to their destination. That is why hiring international transport insurance is so important, even if it is not mandatory. This is because this is a guarantee that your cargo will be supported throughout the journey.

      Nobody wants to receive a damaged product or want it to be lost during the journey, right? In this sense, hiring insurance aims to cover any damage or eventuality that compromises the cargo.

      Want to know more? This article was made for you who want to know how international transport insurance works and the advantages of hiring it. Read on!

      What are the types of transport insurance?

      There are two types of policy that can be contracted: one covering the national territory and the other covering the international area. Both cover damage to cargo in all modes (land, air and sea).

      National transport insurance can be prepared individually for each trip. International transport insurance is based on Incoterms and only one insurance is made for the entire trip. This type of policy is carried out according to the situation of sale or purchase, and the risk of travel must also be taken into account. Remember that all of these details are agreed upon at the time of negotiation.

      In addition, the policy can be divided into two categories: that of transport, which is contracted by the buyer or seller, and that of civil liability, which must be contracted by the carrier.

      This last category entitles you to indemnities related to damages caused by third parties (losses by the owner of the goods) and also provides coverage for accidents during the transportation of the product.

      Currently, there are several types of international insurance that the carrier can hire. Are they:

      • RCT-VI - Civil Liability of the Road Carrier on International Travel;
      • RCTA-C - Civil Liability of the Air Cargo Carrier;
      • RCA-C - Cargo Shipowner's Civil Liability.

      Who contracts international transport insurance?

      Both the carrier and the buyer can purchase international transport insurance. As previously mentioned, only insurance contracted by the carrier is mandatory, but if you are the owner of the goods or the seller, it is worth investing in separate insurance so that you have peace of mind and less concern with the cargo.

      To do so, research about brokers that can offer this service. Since hiring an experienced broker is important, as she will have the ideal insurance for your needs to be met.

      Why should I hire insurance?

      International transport insurance must be hired due to the fact that your cargo is protected during the entire journey, in addition, it is essential to avoid unnecessary costs, in the event of an eventuality with the goods.

      As we have seen, this type of service provides coverage for incidents, such as damage, loss or loss. Therefore, they are a way of making individuals, who are part of the process, more relaxed about the final result of the transport.
